Hey guys! As promised here's part 2 of the mini series "Surviving Nursing School." This entry is all about must-haves that I think every nursing student should have. Check out my list below and be sure to subscribe to the blog! Love & light!
1. A good stethoscope, but don't go over board! (Recommended: Littman 3mm) Also don't get a bright colored one because they stain easier! 2. Comfortable fitting scrubs (Recommended brands: Heartsole, Grey's Anatomy--although a bit pricey, Dickies, Koi, and Jaanuu) 3. Compression socks (You can literally find these anywhere.. Walmart, Target, or a Uniform store) 4. Comfortable shoes (OMG! How will you survive clinical without a good pair? Clogs are nice, but can be pricey. NIKE is a good brand of choice. It really depends on your preference, but shoe inserts can be beneficial sometimes also) 5. A good water bottle (Check out my review on the Smart Water Bottle, really great way to keep up with intake. Otherwise, Target, Walmart, and Amazon are great sources) 6. A reliable laptop (You literally cannot make it through school without a laptop or tablet. Of course I'm an Apple girl, so I recommend Macbooks or the new iPad Pro-unboxing coming soon btw! But Microsoft also has very reliable laptops.. Make sure whatever you get comes with a student discount on WORD) 7. A good planner (TJ Maxx, Amazon, Target, or Walmart are all really great places to start for planners. I personally would be lost without a physical calendar in my face. Yes, with new aged technology adding everything to your phone's calendar is more efficient, but it's something about writing things down that help the information to stick with me) 8. Sticky notes and index cards (Sticky notes are a great way to remember things or to help with study. I would recommend getting different colors for different meanings, again it helps the information to stick better. Also index cards are great for making medication information cards--great tool to use for clinical) 9. Clinical bag (I can't tell you how many times I've left things in other bags because I used the different bags or just forgot something. Just avoid all of that and invest in a clinical bag with multiple pockets. That way everything can stay in the bag and you'll never be without your blood pressure cuff again! :) 10. Quizlet, online videos, and color coding notes (So I know there's been some controversy around students using Quizlet but it has literally helped me so much! First of all, I like to create study sets and prepare for exams that way and it's good to see how other people are preparing for exams. It also helps you to practice those NCLEX style questions that other people have created. I mentioned in the last post that Nurse RN is a great source on Youtube for studying. She literally goes through the entire disease process so that you can understand it, and then offers free quizzes on her website! https://www.registerednursern.com/ Lastly, color coding literally helps me to flashback to my notes during an exam. If I know that I had risk factors in red and medications in yellow I can visually see it during the exam. Different strokes for different folks but I find it to be beneficial. Well, that's my top 10 must-haves for nursing school. If you have any other must-haves be sure to leave them in the comment section below! Thanks again for taking the time to read, and if you haven't already be sure to subscribe to the blog!
